Julia’s Story - A Missionary In These Times

Julia is a single college student pursuing a bachelor in Science and Nursing in the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She is currently living in Florida with her sister and is involved in Olathe Church where she is grateful to be part of a small group. She hopes to help serve in the children’s ministry when they open back up this fall.

At the moment, she has been scribing for a psychiatrist in downtown Orlando at a clinic that serves the uninsured, taking focus on the mental health aspect that has been brought by COVID-19 and realizing how much we were built for community and how much we especially were built to fully trust the Lord.

Julia has never been to India before nor has she done any missionary trips and had been planning to go there this summer with Emma. However, she is still a missionary for God has brought her into nursing school to be a missionary there, for both her peers and patients. He has guided her eyes to see the needs of those around her. Even when her trip to India has been canceled, this only brought clarity to her on what God was doing to the church globally. Because he is bringing the missionaries there who were supposed to go to India here, back to their hometowns, which are often the hardest place but most accessible place for missionaries like Jesus Christ. She is hoping and praying that our Lord could be redefining what a mission trip is supposed to be.

Wherever we are, whether it be in the field, at school or with our own family, we are missionaries that spread the Gospel of our Lord. We might not be able to reach those faraway for now but we can still nurture and grow our community here.

Our hearts and prayers are with Julia and the rest of our healthcare workers and those serving on the front lines.
