Rose is a freshman at the Liberty University in Lynchburg Virginia where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Zoology and Wildlife Biology with a focus on Marine Biology. She loves to scuba dive and go on mission trips and wants to be known as a woman who stands strong in every trial and tribulation. Her most recent mission trip to Hyderabad in India taught her the true meaning and importance of Faith. This past trip had her going through a difficulty in accepting that she is a child of God. Rose has struggled with anxiety her whole life and it has been a problem that she tends to turn away from the Lord. Instead of reaching out to the Lord first, she used to reach out to her own ways of coping with trials and that was to hurt herself. There was a point in her trip when she believed that she was not good enough and did not know why God had led her there. One night the devil was whispering in her ear telling her that she was not good enough. It was not until her team came and found her that she realized that what was happening was actually spiritual warfare. Her team members became her life support. The Holy Spirit flowed through them and into Rose, and that night she learned that she does not need to hurt herself anymore. Because she has Jesus Christ in her life and she has faith that He can protect her from the lies that the devil had been whispering in her ears. With this breakthrough came the realization that it’s not just other people’s lives that are changed when going on a mission. Her own life has also been changed and some things have been revealed to her. These are things about herself and how God’s raw love can radically change your love for yourself and other people. Rose’s story helps us understand how one’s life can change on an international mission trip and how our faith in Jesus Christ can become the ultimate weapon for overcoming spiritual warfare. ____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Jenn and her husband Kyle committed to go on a mission trip and shortly after, Kyle found himself unemployed. Instead of abandoning the trip they pressed in and found community with their team, and the generosity of others as they raised funds."When we were living in Colorado, one of our pastors, he gave a sermon about human trafficking, and one of the things that really struck me was when one of the girls was finally rescued. She said, if your God is so great, then why did it take so long?" - JennIt was that quote that caused her to think about what her personally calling to missions looked like. Through a series of events, she felt called to go to India, and through her "yes" a team of six people and four others from her church joined her and Kyle on the trip. "We all go on missions hoping that we can have an impact that people that we will serve will be changed in some way. That they'll know that they're loved. They'll know that they have a friend. They'll know that they're not alone. But that we also realize along the way that God is loving us. He's caring for us. There are things within us that he wants to change." - KevinJenn has visited India before and backpacked through the Himilayas. She was immersed in the mountains but not in the culture. She knew if she ever had the opportunity to go back she would like to spend time with the people of India. Although she never felt like God was calling her to be a "missionary" she realized after the trip that she was in fact, a missionary and considered what that meant for their family. They prayed about it and asked for God to put an opportunity before them. When the moved to Utah, for Kyle's new position, they didn't know that they were moving into a mission field, with only about 1% of people in their area being Christian.Jenn's story helps us understand that although we all may not move to a foreign country we all are called to be missionaries. God has provided each of us with a calling and is waiting for our "yes."____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Daniel shares his story of moving to the US at 16 from Guatemala with his family. After a short while in LA they moved to Raleigh and Daniel found a church where he got connected. It took a couple of years for him to learn the language and even longer to gain citizenship, but in that time he had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to India. After seeing the way that a mission trip changed his brother he knew he wanted to go. Although he didn't know much about India or what to expect, when they landed he discovered it was an orphanage and he loves kids! There are many orphans who call India home. There are 43 million orphans on planet earth and 26 million of those are in India. So you really can't be an expression of the gospel. Of the church of Jesus Christ in India, not be touching the lives of orphans. Daniel's trip was with one of Global Hope's partners in the state of Orissa.Sharing his experience of his first trip, Daniel talks about some cultural misunderstandings of India in Guatemala and what he learned about making assumptions about people based on their ethnicity. He felt his first trip was challenging. On his second trip, he came to understand how much he loved the people of India and how much they loved him.Daniel says that missions has changed his day to life, in that, it opened his eyes to what we have around us. He hadn't noticed the large Indian population in his community before going on the trip. God has allowed him to serve away from home but at home as well. Jennifer, who was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, moved to the US at age 10 and felt a calling to go to India years later while at University. When she got to go on her first trip to India she felt loved by the people there and decided that she was going to be a non-resident missionary and has returned two other times since. She shares the importance of just saying "yes" when called. You can waste a lot of time wondering why, what's the point, how will you pay, etc. It's very natural for people to go on a short-term mission trip to serve the people of the country they but it's not uncommon for trip participants to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus.Looking back on her mission experience she feels every trip has been different and shaped her into the person she is today.Jennifer shares about her teenage years. She wanted to be popular out of selfish ambition and was willing to do anything wrong to get people's attention. Even in big crowds, she felt lonely and thought what's the point? It wasn't until high school where her brother accepted Jesus and invited her to YoungLife and she felt like the leaders were authentic and genuinely interested in her. It was at a camp she heard the Gospel and she realized her life had a purpose and was not meaningless. The speaker said "If you want to be a part of history you have to be a part of His Story." and she accepted Jesus and began her journey.Kevin shares a devotional from the mission field on boldness. What does it take to distract you from the mission? If you want to be bold you need to eliminate distraction. "The mission never ends. The trip might be over, but the mission never ends." - Kevin____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Hunter shares that his motives for missions work were initially for a "millennial-experience that would look good on Instagram," after his trips he experienced a life-changing encounter and now he understands his role in God's plan is more than just travel, but it's his life.Hunter shared that although he is not on the mission field right now he understands that his current mission field is in Raleigh, NC. He shared a quote he heard from some missionaries at a conference: "God worked on them for nine years before they did any serious ministry abroad." and he believes that where God has him right now.We discussed some of the differences between US culture and Christianity and what many countries, like India, have to deal with. They may risk losing family, friends, and more by publically following Christ. Hunter shares a story of being invited to have tea with a family while on the mission field in India. Upon arriving to meet with the man, he was not there. He was invited in and set down with their daughter. It didn't take him long to find out that he was not there just for tea. They were trying to arrange him with their daughter! Kevin shares a devotional about understanding the call. He remembers a poster from his youth that said "God's plan, my call." Kevin unpacks how to hear and understand God's voice when it comes to your calling. Jesus said follow me, not follow my plan. It's about a person. We are Christ-followers. Remember that you have been called.Hunter described the awe he felt seeing healings as a result of prayer while on a short-term mission trip to India. He shared his experience of seeing a blind eye healed and a person with scoliosis who saw their spine actually straighten up and instantly see a correction of one leg being shorter than the other instantly healed as a result of prayer. One of the main ways that Hunter believes his life is forever changed because of missions is his quiet time spent with God is now not an academic exercise but a desire to know God and how to apply his Word to his life. Hunter prays for young people who are just identifying a call to missions in their hearts. They may be six months or six years from going on a mission trip, but Hunter prays that they would understand their identity in Christ. ____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Lisa describes how an internship at her Church's missions department set her life on a new course. She found herself doing ministry in Nepal where Christianity is illegal. She likes to say that she didn't know what darkness was until that trip. Now as a staff member at Global Hope India she has the experience of working with their donations and marketing as a missionary. She shares her story of her calling into missions work through an internship in high school. Her experience raising funds to go on trips and how she experienced God's provision. Many people are intimidated to go on a mission trip because they fear they don't know enough or cannot present an "altar call". Kevin and Lisa talk about what it's really like on a Global Hope India mission trip and the focus they put on "creative entry." On the trip Lisa went on, they were using the entry point of teaching English as a second language to build relationships with the students and doing a nightly worship service with a simple time of prayer and how God used that to change the lives of many India students."99.9% of the people walking on planet earth today are not waking up this morning with what must I do to be saved? But they do feel lonely and they do have a boatload of needs. And if we can just show them how much we genuinely care... One of our examples is our clean water projects. I love our clean water projects because you do not have to prove anything. Zero. And you get water. You can be Hindu and you get water, Muslim and you get water, Jesus follower and you get water. It is an opportunity for the body of Christ to be beautiful in the community, to be resourceful in the community, to be caring in the community and to build relationships of trust whereby people are then attracted to the Jesus that has changed our lives. " - KevinLisa shared that one of her greatest fears is public speaking and the idea of a trip where she has to preach or stand in front of people with a microphone and present the gospel would not be in her gift set, but despite what the stereotype of missions work has been that has not been her experience.Kevin shared his experience with attending a Billy Graham school for evangelism where he discovered the methodology of Billy Graham's ministry before he ever stepped on the platform and preached. He would look for a movement of prayer in a country before even going. He felt that if God was not moving it would be a waste of resources. There would be pastors and partners praying in advance to prepare the way of the outreach."When we work, we work, but when we pray, God works and we all want to be a part of changing the world, but that's a very daunting task. But if we will learn the value and the power of prayer, we can see how life-changing it can be, how world-changing it can be, and never underestimate the power of prayer." - Kevin____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Bethany shares about her experience on a medical trip to India, and what she learned working in a country that doesn't have access to the same resources in medical care as we do in the US yet they are resourceful and able to treat hundreds of patients at the medical clinics. She shared a story about how when ministering at a leper colony they met a woman who was obviously in a lot of pain. They found out that she had broken her leg and was not able to get it properly cast. They had made a cast from scarves and sticks but wasn't able to get the x-rays and treatment that would have been somewhat routine in the US. Thankfully they were able to get her the treatment she needed and fit into a hard cast for only $50. A special shout out to the regular donors at GHI for their monthly commitment to give. This is an example of how a $50 gift made a huge impact that day in the life of a woman who received critical medical care that she likely would have gone without your generous support.Bethany has learned that God is the hero of the story and he doesn't really ask much of us to participate in his story. He provides everything and just asks for our obedience and willingness to go and say "yes" to him.____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Kyle and his wife went on a trip with Global Hope India even though Kyle had recently lost his job. They felt called and didn't let their current circumstances stop them from that calling. In that situation, they learned that if it's God's will it's God's bill, and He provided. This set this stage for the next phase in their life as God planted them in Salt Lake City with a Christian population of less than 2% and now they live in a mission field.Kyle believes that this was God preparing them for this phase of their ministry in their hometown. If there was one word that Kyle feels like it describes his mission experience in India it would be "trust."Kyle's story is a great example that mission is a lifestyle and far more than a 10-day trip.____________Global Hope India: For over 20 years we have been watching God radically transform thousands of Americans & Indian Nationals through missions. Beverly shares her story about feeling led to help plant a Church in Raleigh with Elevation. They sent her a manual to read through and she felt like she was not a campus pastor or worship leader but she could pray and she could start a small group. That small group grew to two small groups, then a host, which lead to an Elevation Campus, and now two Campuses with thousands worshipping together in only four years. She is an incredible example of simple obedience."God can do so much with the tiniest move of faith." -Beverly.She is a successful corporate leader, a mother, and a wife on top of helping grow a thriving church. You would think she would consider herself too busy for missions work, but when presented with the opportunity to go and serve in India she jumped at the opportunity."God can use anybody anytime, anywhere anyway. He wants." - BeverlyBeverly shared that one of the biggest changes to her life after a foreign mission trip was she came back as a person with a very small capacity to complain. From being scared of public speaking as a 13-year-old to giving a talk to over 400 young women in India about her struggle with alcoholism and sexual abuse she felt like God used this trip as a full-circle moment to knock off the rough edges of her heart."One of the things we say over and over on this show is that we go on a mission trip really, trusting God to use us to impact the lives of others. And he absolutely does that. Yeah. But it's. Not uncommon at all to get on that trip and realize God's really ulterior motive is to change us." - KevinBeverly sums up what she learned as God has taught her that surrender is the best posture to have with Him. Surrender and then get out of His way."I'm just more attuned to understanding what God's priority is with every person, and that's to bring them into a knowledge of him. I'm more likely to look for his agenda with a person and listen for his voice." - BeverlyIt's easy for us to think that mission trip is something for a teenager, not a professional... Beverly breaks through this mold and models the impact that a trip could make in your life. Also mentioned in this episode:A Devotional by Mary Geegh called God Guides

The Watoto Church went from humble beginnings in a hotel suite in downtown Kampala, Watoto Church is now, on average, a 27000-strong congregation with 30-weekend celebration services in Kampala and Gulu, Uganda; and Juba, South Sudan. The church is vibrant, youthful, energetic and life-giving and Richard works as the guest relations coordinator. He shares about going on a mission trip to India and ministering to children and learning that giving is better than receiving. This helped him understand that he worries too much and allowed him to see his salvation through the lens of the children he was serving. That changed his perspective on ministry and allowed him to get out of his shell and not be concerned with his insecurities in ministry.Halfway through the episode, Pastor Kevin shares a real devotional from the mission field about focus. Richard prays for the church in the US that we would never lose the wonder of what God can accomplish in their life if they will be obedient to the call of a short term mission trip.
