Called to Orphan Care - Kourtney’s Story

After going to India one Summer and South Africa the next, Kourtney knew without a doubt that she was called to orphan care ministry overseas. She was 12 years old when she felt this burden on her heart.Kourtney shares her story of how God placed this call of orphan care ministry on her heart and what life looked like after. It may be odd to hear that a middle schooler was so sure that God was leading her to do something, but the "call" was really just God breaking Kourtney's heart for those who He would later use her to minister to. Life didn't dramatically change after those mission trips, and Kourtney faced many disappointments that eventually led her to have an incredible testimony. From Tragedy to Comfort: 3 Trips Changed Tadhg's Life:"So the general concept of a mission trip is that it's actually poorly looked on by a lot of people as you're flexing how much money you have and you're just showing off with all these pictures of all these cute little kids. It is so much more than that. It's nothing to do with that. You know what God has done in your own life, and you know what he can do in the lives of these kids who just are underprivileged." - TadhgTadhg shares about the impact of his first mission trip on changing his perspective. He says it's something you can't learn in school, it's something that has to be experienced.Tadhg shared a tragedy that he and his family went through and how God used that situation on a trip to India where a father had lost his son to help bring some comfort in a difficult situation.After the mission trip ends Tadhg shares advice on how to avoid the trap of coming off the "high" of a trip to return to everyday life. From Exotic Dancing to Red Light District Missionary:Becky has been on staff at Hope Community Church for 17 years. She currently is their medical and safety coordinator. She loves reading and jogging. She is recently newlywed and has been a long-time supporter of Global Hope India.Becky shares that one of the ways missions has changed her life is now she views being joyful as a command and not only a feeling. Seeing the joy of a people with seemingly less than American culture who possess so much joy had an impact on her outlook.Becky tells her story of going from a rebellious teen to exotic dancing to working on a church staff to missionary. She has also gone to India multiple times and saw God take her story full circle as she ministered to women in the Red Light District of Mumbai. There is a local ministry partner that helps sex workers by providing a safe place for their children while they are working. Becky describes the trip as "Extraordinary, poinent and personal to have it come full circle."We discuss what a day of ministry in the field really looks like, what it feels like, what you spend your time doing?
